TRAFFIC RULES IN AUSTRALIA

Avoid any fines during your visit to Phillip Island for the WorldSBK race by following these essential tips. Stay informed and enjoy the event without any unexpected costs:

Driving side

In Australia, vehicles travel on the left-hand side of the road.

Speed limits

  • Urban Areas: Generally 50 km/h unless otherwise indicated.
  • School Zones: Typically 40 km/h during school hours (8:00-9:30 and 14:30-16:00 on school days).
  • Main Roads and Highways: Usually 60-80 km/h in urban areas and up to 100-110 km/h on highways.

Traffic signals

Adhere to all traffic signs and signals. Melbourne is known for its widespread use of red light and speed cameras.

Alcohol

  • For fully licensed drivers, a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.05 to 0.07 will result in fines and the addition of 10 penalty points.
  • A BAC of 0.07 or higher leads to immediate licence suspension and the mandatory installation of an alcohol interlock device for a minimum of six months upon licence reinstatement.

Seat belts

Seat belts are mandatory for all passengers. Children must use approved child restraints appropriate for their age and size.

Tolls

Melbourne has several toll roads, including CityLink and EastLink. Payments are made electronically via an e-tag or online. Plan ahead to avoid toll violations.
