Route overview

  • Take the M1 (Monash Freeway) heading southeast.
  • The drive covers approximately 140 kilometres (87 miles) and usually takes around 2 hours, depending on traffic.

Detailed directions

1) Start on the M1 Freeway (Monash Freeway)

  • Begin your journey from Melbourne by taking the M1 via Flinders Street and Kingsway.
  • Stay on the M1 heading southeast toward Dandenong.

2) Merge onto the South Gippsland Freeway (M420)

  • Take the exit for the South Gippsland Freeway (M420) toward Cranbourne/Phillip Island.
  • Continue along the M420, which transitions into the South Gippsland Highway.

3) Switch to the Bass Highway (B460)

  • After Cranbourne, follow the M420 until you reach the exit for the Bass Highway (B460) toward Phillip Island.
  • Travel along the B460, passing through towns like Grantville and Corinella.

4) Cross the San Remo Bridge

  • Continue on the B460 until you arrive at the San Remo Bridge, the gateway to Phillip Island.

5) Follow Phillip Island Road (B420)

  • After crossing the bridge, take Phillip Island Road (B420) through Newhaven.
  • Stay on the B420 until you approach Cowes, then follow signs directing you to the Phillip Island Circuit.
